So, assuming I'm a happy dog with my dirt pedals (which of course will be upgraded further down the road),what amp (head format) doesn't destroy the wallet, is loud, and gives a good, wide, WARM clean sound at most volumes? And judging by the other models, it's probably not as good as it can be. You know, connect a cab, set the EQ, and play loud. I also like how the Cube 60 takes them in the Fender Blackface mode, it has a warm sound and plenty of headroom so that's good, but eventually I'd like to move to a more simple, basic, analog clean guitar amp (). I've been pretty happy as of late with the variety and tone from my pedals. You can find stuff like that in old console TV’s and radios. A buddy saved it from the trash can for me. I also have a 50’s Magnavox Alnico 1x12 that sounds really good too. Eminence / Fane also have some cool ones. A modern equivalent would be the Scumbacks, Weber 1230’s with pre-rola doping, or the Celestion Heritage or G12H-30. Most people twist those.įor speakers, I’m grateful to have some really old Marshall 4x12’s with 25 and 30 watt greenbacks.
The twisted wires are the power transformer secondaries and the heater wires. If you keep it far enough away from everything you could go unshielded. I always run the input wire shielded and most of the time the grid for the 2nd tube too. Next time I’m using 3 preamp tubes for a JCM800 preamp. It was a little awkward with only 2 preamp tubes, but I squeezed it in. I just copied the 1959 / 1987 Marshall preamp and most of the power supply then plugged in the 6V6 output tube from the 5F1 Champ.

One output is fed thru the speaker emulation Circuit for direct recording and the other one bypasses the Circuit, thus allowing you to do further processing or feed it to your own speaker cabinet. Thus, if you really want to mike a cabinet, you could plug the output of the Demonizer into a standard clean amp driving a speaker cabinet. The Demonizer, has a simulation Circuit which emulates a 4x12 Speaker cabinet miked which can be bi-passed if you choose. hence the desire for cones of paper pushing air. On the other hand, i'd feel like i was getting yet another sim. For distorted amp sims on a budget the pod, digitech, or vox units would be best. The roland cube 30 or 60 sounds great for clean fendery tones (much better than a pod) but the distorted amps sims are pretty lame IMO. Two of the best sounding 5 watt amps have heard are the gries 5 and the winfield 5 watter.Both amps are boutique handwired jobs with a 12 in speaker (makes a huge difference compared to the 8 or 10" speakers found in most 5 watters) The gries is basically a tricked out blackface champ and the winfield is a plexi preamp circuit with a single ended 6v6 power section.

+1 I think the pro junior is the best sounding amp fender currently makes for great overdriven tone at lower volumes. If you don't mind stepping away from the tube thing, the Roland Micro Cube records very well using the direct out. Another alternative is the little Black Heart. For the money though its going to be hard to beat the Epi.

Plus it costs less than the Blues Junior. Only a volume and tone knob but it is really all it needs.
